Rome International Film Festival seeks broader impact

Leadership of the Rome International Film Festival want to develop a greater year-round impact on Rome and Floyd County. Seth Ingram told members of the Rome Floyd Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee Friday that he’d like to see a local film commission created to actively recruit the growing amount of television and film production being shot in Georgia to Rome.

Ingram also formally introduced Cameron McAllister, the new executive director of RIFF, to community leaders. Ingram has shifted titles to become creative director for RIFF.

McAllister said RIFF has been moved from its traditional September dates to become a Nov. 9-12 event this year. He said the Rome festival has traditionally been held the same weekend as the Toronto Film Festival. “We’re not trying to compete with the largest film festival in the world,” McAllister said. He also told Chamber leaders that most of the films screened in Rome are unique from some of the larger festivals such as Toronto or Sundance. “I think this is going to be a good move for us,” McAllister said.
